Welcome to Chicago
Academy Elementary School!
We are a
CPS "contract" school, the first of its kind in the Chicago Public Schools,
District 299. Located in the former Wright Community College building, The
Chicago Academy opened its doors in September 2001 and currently enrolls 600
students in grades Pre-Kindergarten through eight.

Join us for the Full Day/Longer Day Parent Meeting. We
will discuss your ideas and opinions on how you would like the Full Day
structured for the 2012-2013 school year. We will meet on Thursday,
January 12th, from 5 pm to 6 pm, in room 106. The BAC/PAC Parent
Workshop scheduled during that time has been cancelled.

The New Student
Application Process is now open through Friday, January 27, 2012. No late
applications will be accepted. Please click
on the "Student Selection" tab on the left menu bar for more information.
Drop-off and Pick-up Reminders:

Colder
weather is here! Please make sure students come to school dressed
appropriately for outdoor line-up in the mornings. We will have outdoor
line-up on all non-rainy days, with temperatures of 35 degrees or higher. We
will have indoor line up when there is inclement weather, such as snow, rain,
sleet, high winds, and low temperatures.

Morning arrival for K-8
students is between 8:00 am and 8:20 am! Please remember that students
should not arrive before 8:00 am in the mornings. Students will not be
admitted into the school before 8:20 am, unless they are here for a scheduled,
staff-supervised activity (e.g. ST Math). There is no adult supervision for
students before 8:00 am.

When we have indoor
line-up, please drop off K-8 students at the main entrance door. The
hallways are very crowded, and we do have six teachers on duty to supervise
students. For safety reasons, we need the hallways as clear as possible.

When picking-up K-8
students after school, please meet your child outside. We need to protect
the learning environment, and noisy hallways have been disturbing our
classrooms. Our students are hard at work until dismissal time. Students
will be dismissed by their teachers outside.

When dropping off
students in the circular drive of the parking lot, please use extreme caution
and drive slowly. Please have students exit the vehicle as quickly
as possible, but safely, on the curb-side. Use of cellular phones by
drivers operating a vehicle is prohibited by Illinois State Law in a school
zone. There is NO PARKING in
the circular drive of the main parking lot. Tickets will be issued via
U.S. Mail for cars parked illegally. Students’ safety is our priority!

Arrive on time!
In the morning, students line
up at 8:20 am, to be picked up by their teachers. Please be on time, as it
sets the tone for your child's entire day. Breakfast is served in the
classrooms between 8:20 and 8:30 am. Instruction begins promptly at
8:30 am. All students arriving in the classroom after 8:30 will be marked
tardy.
