The “Friends of TCA” is the parent organization for The Chicago Academy Elementary School. We organized in 2006 as non-profit organization for the purpose of administering our school’s fundraising activities. However, fundraising is not all we do. Since our school does not have local school council, the parents group also provides a forum for parents to share and discuss issues and plan activities for our school. We encourage all parents and guardians to get involved.

Our goals are to raise awareness of our school, provide monetary support through fundraising activities, and to support the teachers, staff and administration in their efforts to create the best learning environment for our children.

 

The Friends of Chicago Academy is comprised solely of parents and family members of current students and is open to any and all who are interested in joining.

 

We welcome your ideas, and encourage everyone to give of their time and energy on our various projects throughout the school year.

2010 – 2011 Events & Programs

 

Fall Fundraiser – Kick-off September 30th! With all the budget cuts, this year more than ever our school will benefit from additional funds. Let’s raise $10,000 in honor of our 10th School Year!

 

Gym Clothes Swap — Bring in slightly used gym clothing and swap for items in different sizes. Nothing to swap? You can purchase used items for $1—$3. First swap will be held on Sept 16th at the Curriculum Night.

 

Book Fair – Our fall Scholastic Book Fair will be held November 15-19th. This is a great opportunity to help build our library while stocking up on books for home!

 

Packages for the Troop – Each holiday season our students gather donations and assemble care packages to send to troops serving our country.

 

Spring Staff Appreciation – This is our opportunity to express our appreciation for our hardworking staff and dedicated teachers. During our spring report card pick-up we hold a luncheon to honor the staff.

 

TCA Yearbooks – Yearbooks for the 2010-2011 school year will be available for sale in the spring. These are a great way to preserve memories and commemorate the school year.

 

10th School Year Celebration – Next Spring, the whole family will be invited to come celebrate 10 Years of TCA! Planning meetings will be scheduled later this year. We encourage input from everyone!

Attend monthly parent meetings. Meetings are held on the 3rd Friday of every month at 8:30 a.m. in Room 106. We will plan events as well as share information and discuss issues.

Ongoing Programs to benefit TCA

 

Market Day – TCA participates in the Market Day monthly food program. Order forms are sent home each month. Orders may also be placed online at www.marketday.com.

 

Orders due: Monday, September 20

Pick up date: Thursday, September 23, at 2:30 p.m.

 

 

Dolphin Dollars – Purchase gift cards from a variety of vendors. Each gift card purchase results in money earned for The Chicago Academy, ranging from 3% to 15%% of the purchase price. Flyers will be sent home several times throughout the year.

Box Tops for Education — Look for Box Tops on all of your groceries. Check the packaging for Box Tops for Education before you toss it in the trash. Each Box Top is worth 10¢ for the school. They are on many products from snack food to facial tissue, cereal to Huggies, yogurt to paper towels, not to mention the ZipLoc bags! You can also visit www.boxtopsforeducation.com for other ways to earn cash for TCA and sign up to receive monthly newsletters with valuable coupons and recipes your family will love!  Look for a complete list of products next to the Parent Board in the main hallway, or contact Karen Melzer.

 

Campbell’s Products —We also collect UPC’s from the participating Campbell ’s products for the Labels for Education Program. A list of participating products is available on the website www.labelsforeducation.com. The UPC’s are added up as points and exchanged for merchandise from the Labels for Education catalog, including art supplies, gym equipment, resource materials, math and science products, books or software. The more UPC’s we turn in, the more products we can choose. So get clipping! 

 

Target REDCard — If you have a Target REDCard, please enroll in Target’s Take Charge of Education program. A portion of all your purchases will be donated directly to The Chicago Academy!
